5 places to visit in your 40s (or whenever you feel like going)

I know, I know. Some of these destinations are major clichés... but if you haven't been there yet, these need to go on your bucket list. Now. Add it to your list now. You can thank me later.
  1. New York City, NY
It's the city that never sleeps. The Big Apple. Concrete jungle where dreams are made of, so said Alicia Keys. We've seen it in the movies hundreds of times. You still have to go, even if only for a weekend. Times Square, Broadway, Central Park, so much to see. Oh, and don't just stick to Manhattan. Cross the East River and go to Brooklyn. You'll be surprised.

      2. Paris, France

Cliché #2. The City of Lights. I actually didn't visit Paris until very recently (and was still able to visit Notre-Dame before the fire). But, oh boy, was I impressed! Don't miss the view from the Sacré-Coeur, or from the top of the Montparnasse tower. Eat a crepe at the Crêperie Breizh Café (yum!). Visit the Louvre, or walk up the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe.

         3. Washington, D.C.

This one is probably not much of a cliché. But it's definitely worth visiting. From the free and popular attractions, like the Lincoln or Jefferson Memorials, to the Air and Space museum, there's something for everyone. The White House, Capitol Hill or the Library of Congress should definitely be on your list. And, of course, the Potomac is an attraction on its own.

         4. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Located off the coast of Ecuador, these islands are known for their large number of endemic species. Charles Darwin himself studied these species, which contributed to his Theory of Evolution. Now that we've covered the historical facts, let's move on. White-sand beaches and warm, turquoise water. How can you say no to that, right? Now, let's add to that possible encounters with turtles or sea lions. Plus, the archipelago has a restricted number of visitors. So, chances are that you won't see any crowds. One of the great ways to experience the Galapagos is on a cruise. Celebrity is a great option (they actually just built a ship FOR the Galapagos, called Celebrity Flora). And you can pair it with a land option as well, and visit Quito, Ecuador or Machu Picchu, Peru. If you're already thinking of selling a kidney, welcome to my blog. God, how I wish this was sponsored...

        5. Grand Canyon, AZ

I can talk about this one for hours. It's, hands down, the most amazing thing I've ever seen. If you're driving from Phoenix, the drive itself will leave you in awe. Once you get there, the Visitor Center is a good place to start (if you didn't plan ahead, it will give you an overview of what you can see). You shouldn't miss the Grand Canyon Railway or, if you really want to experience it in a spectacular manner, go for a helicopter tour. You can also camp out and enjoy the park (there's the Camper Village, in the South Rim).
